Copper Mine – Harbin Songjiang

Copper Mine – Harbin Songjiang

Online monitoring of the 79 m Harbin Songjiang copper-zinc mine tailings dam.

The Gongpengzi copper-zinc mine of Harbin Songjiang Copper Industry, founded in May 1969, has been in operation since August of that era, transporting tailings by pressure pipeline at a slurry concentration of about 28%. Its valley-type Grade III tailings facility, commissioned in 1972, has a total dam height of 79 m, a storage capacity of 8 million m³ and a dam length of 180 m. Because residential buildings lie downstream of the dam (a so-called 'head-top dam'), safety monitoring is of critical importance, and a comprehensive online monitoring system was deployed.
