Iron Mine Tailings Dam – Tangshan, Hebei

This tailings facility in Tangshan, Hebei, uses a permeable rock-fill starter embankment with a crest elevation of 125.0 m, a base elevation of 111.0 m and a dam height of 14 m. The crest is 8 m wide with an outer slope ratio of 1:1.73, and the current storage embankment has been raised to elevation 146 m with an outer slope of 1:3.83. The site is under normal service and sits in a geologically simple area with no significant adverse conditions. Following economic, practical, scientific and advanced design principles, a complete online safety monitoring system was implemented for the dam.
